The AAUW, American Association of University Women, offers a program for girls called Tech Savvy and it’s coming to the Chicago area on March 21, 2020. Tech Savvy is a daylong science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career conference designed to attract girls in sixth through ninth grade to these fields. The program also has a parent component that keeps families in the know when it comes to STEM education and careers. Teachers and mentors are welcome to attend the adult portion as well.
The Chicago program will take place on March 21, 2020, from 8:30 – 4:00 at Triton College in River Grove. There is a $10 dollar per person fee that covers the event, lunch, and a t-shirt. This is a popular event and it will fill up, so don’t wait to register! Click here to register. Parents and educators may attend a special track for adults. Print a downloadable flyer here.
If you don’t make it in, check out Expanding Your Horizons Chicago at the University of Chicago, another STEM conference for girls in grades 6-8 will take place on March 28, 2020 from 9:00-3:30 at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Registration costs $5 and can be completed here.
Both of these events promise engaging, hands-on learning opportunities, a chance to meet with like-minded peers, exposure to a variety of potential careers, and the opportunity to be inspired by a diverse group of professional women in STEM.
